Sri Lanka is a tropical paradise and Negombo is a brilliant place to start.

In fact, it’s the perfect base to see the rest of the island from. Colombo the capital is only an hour south, and Kandy, the heart of the island just over a couple of hours east. You can go further south to Galle; a fascinating old fort town with a distinct Portuguese influence. And still, there’s the east coast with its surfing beaches and the north, so close to India, you could almost swim there.
